The Breathing City is an art & science collaboration concerned with issues related to commnuication & the representation of scientific data through artistic practice. The primary focus here being on complex climatic processes in our urban environment and how these can be articulated for the average person to integarte and utilize into their daily life. The Breathing City is manifested visually in an exhibition travelling between the UK, USA & Europe.

A set of ten postcards & ten mini-cards were designed to publicize the exhibition. Each had devised a casual and almost poetic way to communicate complex scientific issues that deal with climate change. Each post-card presents a different question with it’s own personalized response on its back. Questions such as “Does the yellow of the sun depend on the blue of the sky?” or “Do street lights change the color of the rain?” make it easier for most individuals to understand and relate to. The mini-cards present key-words, such as “art and science” and “realms of perception,” extracted directly from the scientific research paper on the subject.
